It is both the searing heat of and durability of composite timber that encouraged the architects to use it while shaping both the timber screening and the generous outdoor decks. It is the deck that connects with both the living area on the first level and the bedrooms on the second level and usher in the outdoors.
The street façade of the LA House was built to keep out prying eyes with the rear opening towards the garden and pool area. Large swiveling glass doors usher in ample natural light and ventilation with the double-height central living area become the fulcrum of all activity.
One can instantly notice how the original structure was composed of a variety of materials that include wood stone and corrugated iron and tile. Giving another layer of textural intrigue to this confluence of contrasting materials is glass!
But that is not the only space that was altered to meet the growing demands of an urban family. The more rigid kitchen of the house with a counterproductive U-shaped kitchen layout was replaced by a new kitchen where a smart worktop and ergonomic island combine modern minimalism with industrial overtones.
Beyond the passive solar design principles a lovely garden and green landscape around the residence add to its sustainable style. Despite a modest street façade the house opens up towards the rear and brings the outdoors inside.
The beautiful Finnish villa is much more than just the view on offer with its unique design combining a touch of coastal charm with classic villa design and modern ergonomics. A wooden terrace gable roof and a section of the home that acts as the green roof create a fusion of the modern and the traditional even as the open interior is filled with ample natural light. Part of the home is etched into the bedrock on the site and it is this rock that acts as an inimitable wall in certain parts of the residence.
It is the living room that offers unabated views of the coastal strip while the master bedroom overlooks the beautiful lineup of pine trees on the other side. Then there is the dining area kitchen and terrace section that opens up towards dreamy sunsets and the distant countryside allowing the homeowners to take in the many sights and sounds outside.
