Not every home needs to be about a spectacular or unique façade that steals the spotlight turns heads and makes a big impact right off the bat. In fact a modest and unassuming façade that blends with other homes in the neighborhood offers advantages of its own.
There are times when all of us wish to move away from the constant noise that surrounds us and into a setting that is far more tranquil and healthy. A holiday retreat in the woods a summer vacation home perched on the edge of a lofty cliff and overlooking beautiful mountains or even a second home where you spend more than half the time each year enjoying the untouched jungle landscape around you – every one of these ideas does sound like an absolute dream! The hard part of it all is to have both the resources and the ability to build such structures in remote locations. That is until you come across the designed by MAPA.
Designed by Tobias Partners the house was originally built in 1980s and was in urgent need of a fresh modern makeover. Despite the difficult access to the lot and the constraints placed by the existing form of the house the interiors were completely opened up to welcome in gentle ocean breeze and a flood of natural light.
An antique cottage has a strong historic appeal and rocks the shabby almost abandoned look. It’s truly an off-the-grid paradise for those who are happy to trade luxury for nature’s delight. Sometimes the exterior of such a tiny hut almost loses itself amongst the matching trees. The dark and shabby state of the wood makes it an outstanding piece that embodies the concept of nature as the main building element.
By adding a large floor-to-ceiling glass window in the living area towards the south and the east the kitchen sitting zone and dining space now enjoy unabated view of the hypnotic scenery outside. Even the loft style bedroom gets a long window of its own that allows guests to take in the sights and sounds of Eidsvåg even as they soak in its comfort.
Treehouses have some of the most amazing views! It would be a shame to limit yourself to only watching the natural surroundings from the deck or a small window. A treehouse with glass walls doesn’t just offer a fantastic view in all directions it’s also incredibly spacious and luminous!
When we combine these philosophies we get a modern version of a treehouse – a beautiful house among the trees that can serve as a permanent residence or your favorite vacation spot. Check out some of the most down below!
